The Centre of Excellence building has been designed to provide a collaborative working environment for several public agencies involved in the delivery of training, research & development for the future energy transition and is planned to be Ireland’s first carbon-neutral and energy positive building when completed.
A Feasibility Study, socio-economic appraisal and wider regeneration Masterplan for a Low Carbon Neighbourhood were also prepared by KHArchitects and HCArchitects (now Ailtirí Architects) and our wide-ranging Integrated Design Team partners. The building, designed as a state of the art ‘demonstrator’ building, will host over 130 social and sustainable energy professionals and researchers, and will act as a pilot centre for innovation in active and smart grid technology. The project successfully achieved URDF funding of €9.5m in Dec 2021.
